GUEST OF THE MONTH
Julie from @JoliesBobines, whose universe has mesmerised us since the beginning and who has the unique talent of translating our designs and fabrics into a colourful world, shares her limitless Atelier Brunette experience with you.
She reveals her secrets for hacking LA Combi Addie jumpsuit into a breathtaking dress.
THE HACK TO SEW ALL YEAR ROUND
Our partner
Addie is the meeting between two brands that I have always loved since they were created. This playsuit was designed especially for the 10th anniversary of Atelier Brunette and the 5th anniversary of Fibre Mood.
I immediately imagined this jumpsuit as a dress. Transforming a pattern and making it your own is always an exciting challenge.
I created this tutorial with the help of Teresa, the talented stylist from Fibre Mood so that it is as accurate as possible and accompanies you with accessible technical instructions. I also learned a lot and wanted to pass on this expertise to you.
WHY IS LA COMBI ADDIE SO CHARMING?
From XS to XL
It’s THE meeting between THE style and THE comfort to accessorise as desired.
Julie’s height is 1,68 meters. She sewed LA Combi Addie in size M with our FUJI NIGHT fabric FROM THE EMPREINTE COLLECTION!
Big chic boots or cool sneakers, everything suits it!
EQUIPMENT
- The LA Combie Addie sewing pattern - 3 meters of fabric (width 1,40 meters) - 45 cm of Vlieseline G710 - A matching 40 cm invisible zipper - Matching thread and serger thread - A ruler and a pencil - Tracing paper and scissors
SUGGESTED FABRICS
To sew (with love): all materials with a little hold such as cotton, cotton blends, linen, viscose linen, cotton linen…
HER FAVORITE FABRIC
Le Fuji Night
I love the Atelier Brunette colors and the abstract brushstroke print. I also like the way this fabric drapes.
It’s perfect for this model, as a jumpsuit or as a dress!
MODIFY THE PATTERN
Difficulty level: be introduced to Hacking
Read this before you start sewing your LA Combie Addie! To create this version, I made some modifications which I detail here. To sew this variation, sew the pieces exactly like the LA Combie Addie, and skip steps 8 and 10 for assembling the fork.
/ 1 /
TRANSFORM YOUR PANELS INTO A SKIRT
Trace pieces 4 (front trousers) and 5 (back trousers). Remember to record the markers carefully.
/ 2 /
FRONT
Cut the part with the fork.
And now you have your front skirt piece!
/ 3 /
BACK
On piece 4 (back trousers), draw a line perpendicular to the straight grain using the side marker.
Cut this line.
Make a mark approximately 4.5 cm below the cutting line.
Rotate the top piece starting from the side mark to pass the other side over the mark marked at 4.5 cm and tape together.
Draw (as for the front piece) a line parallel to the straight grain starting from the center point in front.
Cut the part with the fork.
Draw a right angle on the middle back waistline, then cut off the excess. Slightly harmonise the side, by rounding at the junction of the previously cut pieces.
Your skirt panels are ready.

ASSEMBLY
To assemble the dress, follow all the steps in the jumpsuit instructions. When sewing the mid-back skirt (which corresponds to step 7), stop the seam about 30 cm from the bottom (to be comfortable and above all to be able to walk, or run if necessary!)

FINISHES
of the slit and hem
You left an opening when sewing the back to create the slit, Iron the slit hem with a 1 cm margin.
Form a double fold with an iron for the hem of the skirt (first 1 cm, then 2 cm)
Fold the hem towards the wrong side then stitch 1 cm from the edge of the slit.
Stitch the hem and slit nicely in one go.
Turn right side out (this can also be done with a sewing point turner).
WELL DONE! Your finished.
